George McCluskey III, MD, is Director of the Shoulder Fellowship Program and Chief of Shoulder Surgery at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. At St. Francis, Dr. McCluskey has served as Chief of Staff, Chairman of the Physician Leadership Board and member of the hospital Board of Trustees.
Dr. McCluskey graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1984 and completed his internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He then completed a shoulder fellowship at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City and the New York Orthopaedic Hospital at Columbia University Medical Center. Since 1990, Dr. McCluskey has practiced in Columbus, Georgia.
Dr. McCluskey has served in leadership positions in the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons; American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine; American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; Georgia Orthopaedic Society and the Georgia Shoulder and Elbow Society. He has delivered over 350 international and national scientific presentations and lectures and has published over 30 scientific articles and book chapters on shoulder and elbow disorders. He has also co-authored a textbook and three scientific bulletins on shoulder surgery and rehabilitation.
Academic appointments in orthopaedic surgery include The Tulane University School of Medicine, the Medical College of Georgia and Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. McCluskey serves on the editorial board and is a reviewer for several peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals. Dr. McCluskey is a member of the Medical College of Georgia Advisory Board and the Georgia Board for Physician Workforce.
